After finding a place to live on the ultra cheap I decided it was time to change up my car situation. I had my beloved 2007 Grand Marquis and my irritating, financed, upside-down 2014 Nissan Note manual. I set out for something that combines the attributes of both (luxurious and large, but fairly efficient) and the fruits of my labor have realized themselves.

Say hello to my 2013 Ford Fusion SE 2.0T Ecoboost in Bordeaux Reserve (with Equip 205B - heated leather - and the optional 18" wheels). I traded both of my cars on it.

(awful potato picture incoming)

Kinja'd!!!

Here's the dealer photo, which is the best depiction of my exact car I have until I can take photos in the morning.

It's glorious. I am happy camper...just need help coming up with a name.

Fuckin nice! Congrats and best of luck on your living situation.

Also why was the Note irritating? You were gushing over it a few months ago! The draw of heated leather seats and power windows was too much to ignore wasn't it? WASN'T IT!?

Congrats on the new Fusion. I really like the color.

Imagine a car with no sound insulation that crests 3000 rpm at 60 mph in top gear. Now imagine that for every single highway trip you take. Also, imagine a 5 month old car with more squeaks than an 8 year old Panther, and is completely gutless when you want to have some driving fun.

45 MPG is great but it wasn't worth it, neither was the tremendous loss of new car depreciation.

Bearing in mind this car has more horsepower out of a 2.0T than my 4200 lb Grand Marquis' V8 - which was previously my most powerful vehicle to date - it feels really quick.

That sounds exactly like the Versa I rented a few years back, minus the upside of economy. 28 highway, I shit you not.

That's still more powerful than all of my 6 cars. I came to the realization of how weak my cars have been when my younger bro got his first car and it has 287 HP (2013 Taurus Limited). The most HP I've had was in my 2013 Civic and that;s only 140 HP. You would never guess the cars I've owned were lacking in power with the speeding tickets that I accrued over the years though.

I've never even been stopped by the police - knock on wood - let alone any speeding tickets, but I've had a bunch of low powered vehicles too. Two Versas, an old Suzuki compact, Mazda2, 4 cylinder Tacoma, Kia Forte, etc...

I need some way of carrying my bike, so it needs either a tow hitch or a roof rack. (I hate trunk mounted bike racks)

Same, I hate them damned awful trunk bike rack things. I never trust them, NEVER.

Try searching Craigslist for a Yakima, If you can find one for cheap you can cut the bars down and buy new Q-Clips and rubber feet if need be.

At least you have some variety there. Here's my portfolio. 90 Escort GT, 96 Civic LX, 92 Civic Si, 93 Accord LX, 13 Civic EX and currently a 95 Saturn SL2. I'm hoping to get something more up to date by the end of the year. Ford Flex potentially. I'm keeping the Saturn as a second car because it's fun to drive and manual. Also only paid $800 for it.

The Saturn sounds like its probably quite tossable and you don't have to worry about breaking anything on an $800 car. I've driven the Flex and really liked it but the '12 I drove about a year about had a few QC issues.

This Fusion is far and away the nicest and fastest car I've had and will hopefully have for a long time.

Uh...that sounds good, except I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to roof racks. It's all pig latin to me.

The Saturn is CRAZY tossable and handles like it's on rails. I take turns in it a lot faster than I'd recommend but it just holds and holds and is so controllable. I was looking at the First Gen Flexes at first but through a bit of research and from info I've gathered from fellow Opponauts the Flex to get is the 2013+. It's much more than an updated look. Better quality parts, more power, better handling, quieter, etc..

Cool, I'm speaking for mainly Yakima racks here :)

So, When you find a roof rack that works it should come with the two bars, Wind deflector and a set of rubber "feet" also the Q-Clips which hold the rack to the car. Any Yakima rack can be adapted to fit any car. That means that a rack from a Audi A6 will fit your Ford Fusion if you can buy the proper adapting parts. That picture below is of the rubber feet, and of the clips that actually secure the rack onto the car. You can get these here they're around $40 and the numbers for your car seem to be "Q149" for the front set and "Q124" for the rear.

Kinja'd!!!

Make sure that the rack would come with locks, Roof rack theft is a bit more common than I'd like to admit.

Another thing is that the bars that would come with a new and certain used racks are long..... Really long. If you want to cut them down, You can do that. You'll have to punch out the caps on the end of the bars though. That's what they look like. You can buy a replacement set here . A conventional hacksaw should get the job done, Just make sure it's securely clamped down.

Also, If you look inside of the doors of your Fusion, Between the interior and exterior on the top there might be some arrows pointing upwards or downwards. Those are a good suggestion on where the rack actually mounts.

They're easy to take off, and put on. The actual bike holder just goes right on top!

Any questions, Feel free to ask!

Doesn't the motor sound so good?

It does, it doesn't sound like a two liter four cylinder at all. It didn't sound as good as the 2010 Taurus Limited I drove but its really got a kick to it.

Also, my headliner has QC issues too, if it makes you feel any better.

It's a lot throatier than I expected. Better than the 3.6 V6 we replaced, somehow.

What the hell is with Ford and headliner QC issues!?

I don't know, it doesn't fit properly around the passenger side C-pillar or above the front window on the same side. Didn't notice until I looked over my shoulder to change lanes and thought of your Mom's

Yeah, for a tall narrow subcompact its very surefooted and stays planted in the turns. The steering is also pretty decent despite being 100% electric.
